BETEMIT TO ENZ: YOU CAN '86' 14!
Morgan Ensberg has worn #14 for most of his baseball life. Ensberg’s No. 14 was retired at Redondo Beach High School in California this year.
Ensberg wore 21 all spring, but out of respect for Paul O'Neill and what he means to the Yankees and their fans, he decided to give it up now that he has been added to the 40 man roster and seems to be headed north with the team.
A $5000 offer to Betemit for #14 was rejected by the selfish utility infielder.
My opinion: Both of them should get over it, its a number. However, Betemit could have made the gesture of good will to welcome Mo to the team.
Some notable Yank 14's: Bill Bevens ('46), Bobby Cox ('68-'69), Hideki Irabu ('99), Pat Kelly ('91-'97), Lou Piniella ('74-'88), Moose Skowron ('55-'62), Ron Swaboda ('73-'75).
