WHAT IS NEXT FOR JOE?
So where does Joe go from here?
MANAGING:
Rumblings out of Los Angeles are that the Dodgers would ditch Grady Little and hire Torre. This works for Torre because it's closer to his off season home in Maui.
Its no secret that there is friction in Chicago. White Sox management is getting sick of Ozzie Guillen's act and could consider a change since Joe is available. It is also no secret that the Reinsdorf family and the Steinbernners are not exactly best buds. Jerry would love to show up George by snatching a fan fav. Joe and Lou in the same city. Very marketable.
With the Cardinals bringing in a new GM they might also want to bring in a St. Louis favorite. Remember St. Louis had a Joe Torre day during the celebration closing the old Busch Stadium.
Lastly, anything is possible in Yankee-land. Yanks are going to get bad press here and already look like asses. Its possible that they could go back to Joe with another offer. The Yankees always brag about tradition. Tradition has shown Yankee managers come back.again and again (Billy, Yogi, Lou...etc.).
GENERAL MANAGER
Would Joe leave the field to take a front office job? He just might. He's 67 and has a young daughter. Staying close to home would be attractive.
Would the Mets show up the Yankees by canning Omar and bringing in Torre? Omar is no great shakes and after the 'collapse' a move could be justified.
BROADCASTING
I don't think you'll see Joe at the YES Network, but FOX or ESPN is a definate possibility. FOX is in NY and ESPN in CT, both keep him close to home.
Either way Joe has good options and will do just fine.
