YES OUTPERFORMS ESPN AND ESPN2 IN NEW YORK
NEW YORK — Strengthening its position as the pre-eminent regional sports network in the country and the No. 1 sports television destination in New York, the YES Network finished the 2005 broadcast year as the most-watched regional sports network in both Primetime (Monday-Sunday, 7 p.m.-11 p.m.) and in Total Day delivery (Monday-Sunday, 6 a.m.-2 a.m.). This marks the third straight year — in its four-year existence — that YES has laid claim to that title.
YES also finished the 2005 broadcast year as the most-watched sports network in New York in prime time, defeating ESPN and ESPN2, along with the other New York regional sports networks. In addition, YES, the only New York regional sports network to experience year-over-year growth in prime time, doubled the combined MSG Network and Fox Sports New York Total Day delivery.
YES Network’s 2005 Highlights:
• YES was the most-watched RSN in the United States for the third straight year in both prime time and Total Day delivery. YES averaged 32,000 TV households per day in 2005, 39 percent greater than No. 2 NESN (Boston), which averaged 23,000 households. YES also averaged 86,000 TV households per day in prime time, 23 percent greater than second-ranked NESN, which averaged 70,000 households.
• YES was the most-watched sports network in New York in prime time (86,000), easily out-performing not only MSG Network and Fox Sports New York, but also defeating ESPN (77,000) and ESPN2 (25,000); YES also out-delivered ESPN2 in New York in Total Day delivery (32,000 vs. 15,000); in addition to total households, YES also ranked No. 1 in New York in prime time among these sports networks in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.
• YES was the only sports network in New York to enjoy year-over-year growth in either prime time or Total Day household delivery, jumping 8 percent in prime time households from 80,000 to 86,000; by comparison, ESPN dropped 13 percent (77,000 vs. 88,000), ESPN2 dropped 17 percent (25,000 vs. 30,000), MSG Network dropped 31 percent (29,000 vs. 42,000), and Fox Sports New York dropped 27 percent (16,000 vs. 22,000).
• YES’ Total Day household delivery — 32,000, doubled the combined total household delivery for MSG Network and Fox Sports New York (10,000 and 6,000, respectively).
• YES continued to out-perform MSG Network, its closest New York regional sports network competitor, by 233 percent in adults 18-49 (20,000 vs. 6,000) and 250 percent in adults 25-54 (21,000 vs. 6,000). Against Fox Sports New York, YES had an advantage of 20,000 vs. 3,000 in adults 18-49 and 21,000 vs. 3,000 in adults 25-54.
• YES’ viewership grew significantly in TV households in its other metered-markets; for example, in the Hartford DMA, YES was up 33 percent in Total Day delivery and 25 percent in prime time; in the Buffalo DMA, YES was up 50 percent in Total Day delivery and 33 percent in prime time.
