MLB: PAY FOR STATS...OR ELSE!!!
From Bill Madden's column in the NY Daily News.
Can the money grab in baseball get any more outrageous than this? MLB is now maintaining that player statistics are "intellectual property" and therefore cannot be used for profit without permission. As a result, they are making the companies that run these fantasy baseball leagues pay for a license in order to use the stats, which are available for free in any number of news venues. One of those companies has filed a federal lawsuit arguing the numbers are historical facts that can be used by anyone.
