CLINTON — Andy Fox learned plenty during a lengthy minor league baseball stint that eventually led to a major league career. He says those days of toiling in the minors will pay huge dividends as he prepares for his managerial debut. The new skipper of the Clinton LumberKings served as keynote speaker at the team’s Hot Stove Banquet at Eagle Point Park Lodge Saturday night. “Being in the minors for 6 1/2 years molded me into the type of player who pays great attention to detail,” said Fox in an interview last Wednesday. “I want to teach our players how to play the game the proper way. When I was playing, I learned it’s not all about hitting home runs and batting averages. Hopefully I can pass that type of thinking onto our players.”Fox, who turned 35 earlier this month, was selected in the second round of the 1989 draft by the New York Yankees. He got called up to the majors in 1996.
