CAMP NOTES FOR 2/25/11

Russell Martin will catch in tomorrow’s opener against the Phillies.

Andrew Brackman has been shut down for a few days after complaining of tightness in his groin following his throwing session on Wednesday.

Bartolo Colon will start tomorrow vs the Phillies. He will throw two innings or about 35 pitches to be followed by Joba Chamberlain, Dave Robertson, David Phelps, Hector Noesi and someone named Eric Wordekemper.

Tomorrow's forecast in Tampa, 80 degrees & partly cloudy.

Girardi guesses that Mark Prior is throwing near 90 mph. Prior is still a longshot to make the team as a reliever. “I think he understands that there’s a lot of work to be done on his part,” Joe Girardi said. “He has to prove that he can stay healthy."

Bud Selig will announce on Saturday that Joe Torre has been hired as VP of Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball.

A-Rod to Cano: "Stop thinking slap, start thinking crush."

Eric Chavez on his reserve role: "I knew what I was getting myself into. If I can stay healthy and swing the bat well, I may be able to get some productive at-bats and help this team win. I'm not going to be barking for playing time. I knew what the deal was when I came here."

For you old timers, a Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson movie is in the works, according to the New York Post. Ben Affleck and brother Casey are reportedly working on a project called The Trade, which chronicles the insane story of Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson, two New York Yankees pithcers who swapped wives and families.

If you live in the area, The Trenton Thunder (Class AA; Eastern League) and The College of New Jersey announced a partnership that makes WTSR, 91.3 FM the new flagship station of the Trenton Thunder Radio Network, with Jay Burnham returning as the Voice of the Thunder. The College of New Jersey's student radio station, WTSR, will broadcast all 142 Trenton Thunder games plus playoff games for at least the next three seasons.

The Yankees today announced that infielder Eduardo Nunez and right-handed pitcher David Phelps were named winners of the Yankees' 2010 Kevin Lawn Award as the Yankees' minor league "Player of the Year" and "Pitcher of the Year," respectively. The annual awards are dedicated to Kevin O'Brien Lawn, the son of longtime Yankees Vice President and Chief of Operations Jack Lawn who passed away in 1999.
