Joe Girardi sent a notice to his bullpen after Billy Traber and Brian Bruney embarrassed the team with their putrid bush-league performance filling in for Joba Chamberlain against the Rays on Monday night.
"Other guys need to step up," Girardi said. "That's the reality of baseball -- it happens all the time. Jeter went down and Gonzalez stepped up. Jorge went down and Molina stepped up. It's no different when it's a pitcher. Someone has to step up and I expect our guys to do it."
Translation: Jonathan Albaladejo was called up from Scranton to fill the roster spot. That doesn't mean that he will be the one returned to Scranton when Joba returns.
