MILESTONES FOR 2008

Look for these milestones during the 2008 season:

MIKE MUSSINA: Mussina is currently 22nd on the all-time strikeout list. He needs 6 to pass David Cone, 105 to pass Frank Tanana, 141 to pass Cy Young, 170 to pass Mickey Lolich, and 193 to pass Jim Bunning at #17. Moose has 250 career wins, 45th all-time. He needs 2 to pass Bob Gibson, 4 to pass Carl Hubble and 5 to pass Jack Morris. If Mussina can roll off 16, he will be tied with Bob Feller at #35.

ANDY PETTITTE: Pettitte needs 156 strikeouts for 2000.

MARIANO RIVERA: With 443 saves, Mo needs 36 to pass Lee Smith for 2nd on the all-time list.

DEREK JETER: The Captain needs 144 hits for 2500, 5 homers for 200 and 67 RBI for 1000.

ALEX RODRIGUEZ: "A" needs 5 doubles to hit the 400 mark. With 518 HR's he sits at #17 on the all-time list. He needs 4 to pass Ted Williams and Willie McCovey, 30 will tie him with Mike Schmidt at #12 and 46 gets him past Reggie Jackson at 11.

BOBBY ABREU: Abreu needs 16 RBI's for 1000 and 4 stolen bases for 300.

JOHNNY DAMON: "The Yankee Clipped" will be in a race with Rodriguez to hit the 400 mark in doubles, JD needs 12.

JASON GIAMBI: Which 1200 mark will the Giambino hit first, RBI ( he needs 17) or strikeouts (he needs 3) ? There is also a chance he could hit 1200 in walks, he is 71 shy.

Now, lets talk about HIDEKI MATSUI. Do we count his numbers in Japan? MLB might not recognize his Central League stats, but I'm sure he does and to some extent so do the Yankees. Godzilla is 65 HR's away from 500 (103 here, 332 there). With the licensing and TV deals the Yankees have in Japan I'm sure a "500" celebration in the new stadium could happen if Matsui can bang out 2 big HR seasons. As for 2008, 15 gets him 450.
