BRAWL GAME! YANKS & RAYS CLEAR BENCHES!

Top of first inning: Heath Phillips was ejected by home-plate umpire Chad Fairchild for throwing an "up-and-in" to Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, grazing him.

Joe Girardi protested the ejection. Right-hander Steven Jackson relieved Phillips.

In the bottom of the first: Shelley Duncan slid hard into second base, spikes high. Rays' Jonny Gomes sprinted in from RF to mix it up with Duncan resulting in the clearing of both benches.

EJECTED: Duncan, Bobby Meacham, Kevin Long and Gomes.
