CAIRO: "I WANTED TO COME BACK"
These are quotes by Miguel Cairo from an article in the HOME NEWS TRIBUNE by staff writer PETER ABRAHAM.
This guy gets it!
On going to the Mets: "I was staying in New York which was good. But I was very upset. "I have nothing against the Mets. The treated me great. But I wanted to come back to the Yankees," Cairo said. "I'd rather be a utility player for the Yankees than a starter for a lot of other teams. They know me here."
His feelings about the Yankees: "The Yankees were the best thing that ever happened to me."
His role in 2006: "I know my place here," he said. "My job is to be ready to do whatever they need me to do and be a good guy in the clubhouse. I think a winning team needs those kind of players."

He wasn't traded. He was a free agent. His former agent Alan Nero was asking too much so the Yankees went with Tony Womack. Cairo fired Nero and signed a 1 year deal with the Mets.
Thanks for reading NYYU, Tomp.
