DAY 4


Bernie Williams was offered arbitration!


The Yankees traded IF/OF Tony Womack and $900k to the Reds for Minor League IF Kevin Howard and OF Ben Himes.

MLB.COM: According to a high-ranking baseball official, the Nationals have acquired Rangers second baseman Alfonso Soriano in exchange for outfielders Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge and Minor League pitcher Armando Galarraga. The deal will be completed pending physicals.

The Tigers agreed to terms with RHP Todd Jones on a two-year contract.

The Mets signed INF Jose Valentin to a Minor League contract and invited him to Spring Training.

The Pirates acquired 1B Sean Casey and cash from the Reds.

The Red Sox acquired INF Mark Loretta from the Padres for C Doug Mirabelli.

The Indians re-signed former Yank RHP Bob Wickman to a one-year contract.

The Giants declined to offer arbitration to former Yank 1B J.T. Snow.

The Blue Jays acquired 1B Lyle Overbay from the Brewers.


The Colorado Rockies signed RHP Jose Mesa to a one-year contract for 2006 with a club option for 2007.

The Atlanta Braves acquired INF Edgar Renteria from the Red Sox.

RUMORS: Frank Thomas to the A's, Jeromy Burnitz and Carl Everett to the Mariners, Nomar to the Tribe, Reggie Sanders to KC, Milton Bradley to the Cubs, Kenny Rogers to the Tigers.





DAY 3

The Houston Astros declined to offer salary arbitration to Roger Clemens, a move that means he can't re-sign with the National League champions until May 1. "If anybody calls, we'll listen" said his agent, Randy Hendricks.

RUMOR: The Reds contacted the Yankees to see if there was intrest in Ken Griffey, Jr.

RUMOR: Yankees asked the Brewers about the availability of Brian Clark.

RUMOR: Manny Ramirez is being pursued by the Dodgers.

RUMOR: The Mets are interested in Javier Vazquez.

RUMOR: Alfonso Soriano to the Dodgers or Red Sox.

RUMOR: Red Sox talking with the Padres about a trade that would send David Wells and catcher Doug Mirabelli to San Diego for infielder Mark Loretta and pitcher Akinori Otsuka.

The Chicago White Sox cut ties with Frank Thomas, refusing to offer salary arbitration to the two-time American League MVP. The World Series champions also declined to offer arbitration to Carl Everett.

Trevor Hoffman will stay with the San Diego Padres, agreeing to a $13.5 million, two-year contract that includes a club option for 2008.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired catcher Johnny Estrada from the Atlanta Braves.

The Chicago Cubs acquired Juan Pierre from the Florida Marlins.

The Kansas City Royals acquired LHP Mark Redman from the Pirates.

The San Diego Padres acquired RHP Dewon Brazelton from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for 3B Sean Burroughs.





DAY 2

According to ESPN’s Peter Gammons, (who is never right about anything) the Dodgers are close to acquiring 2B Alfonso Soriano from the Rangers for RHP Jonathon Broxton. (I think O'l Pete had one too many Lone Star's down there in Big D.)

John Olerud, a soft-spoken former batting champion and two-time All-Star, has retired after 16 seasons, the Boston Red Sox said on Tuesday.

Left-hander Steve Kline was acquired by the San Francisco Giants from the Baltimore Orioles for right-hander LaTroy Hawkins and cash.

The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to terms with starter A.J. Burnett on a five-year, $55 million contract.


The Toronto Blue Jays signed general manager J.P. Ricciardi to a three-year contract extension that runs through 2010.


Former Boston Red Sox manager Grady Little was hired Tuesday to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers.
