The Yankees traded for ultilityman Eric Hinske in exchange for two minor leaguers.
The Pirates acquired catcher/outfielder Eric Fryer and right-hander Casey Erickson.
Fryer, 23, hit .250 with 11 doubles, two homers and 24 RBI in 59 games with Class A Tampa. He will be assigned to Class A Lynchburg.
Ericson, 23, went 3-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 21 games (three starts) for Class A Charleston. He will be assigned to Class A West Virginia.
