Derek Jeter cheated New York out of millions in taxes by claiming he lived in Florida when he really was living in NY, state officials say.
The state is going after Jeter for three years' worth of back taxes and interest.
Jeter claims he established residency in Tampa in 1994. Florida does not have a state income tax.
NY officials are seeking taxes for three years starting in 2001.
Jeter bought a $13 million apartment at Trump World Tower in 2001.
The NY taxman says that the 88th-floor spread near the United Nations is Jeter's real home.
NY first went after Jeter in February and his lawyers said the state's allegations were too vague and demanded they provide more specifics to back up their claims.
One of Jeter's neighbors said the ballplayer "definitely lives here. We see him coming and going all the time. "
