SMALL TALK: AARON SIGNS
NEW YORK -- The Yankees avoided an arbitration hearing with Aaron Small on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million with the right-hander.
Small had asked for a raise to $1.45 million when the two sides exchanged arbitration numbers last week. The Yankees countered with $1.025 million.
In addition to his base salary, Small could earn $80,000 in performance bonuses: $15,000 each for 15 and 20 starts, and $25,000 each for 25 and 30 starts.
"It took several conversations," said general manager Brian Cashman. "But anytime you can keep these things out of the arbitration arena, that's preferred."

Mike, thanks for such a great blog--
I'm a Yankee fan, live in NYC, but
also got a place in Tampa to follow
the Yankees. The article about the sign in Tampa you posted was another
example of what I've found here---the
Yankees barely exist. Granted, spring
training ticket sales are huge, etc.,
& people know George has done a lot in
the community, but there's no connection after that.
Thank you for the kind words about my blog.
